To me this is not just absurd and hollow, it's actually demeaning on a human level. Streaming services - you consume, algorithm notices, throws a suggestion, you consume, etc. I don't know about you, but in my youth, finding music eas an organic thing, you researched labels, bands' ethos, historical place and significance, you were able to tell whether you're dealing with imposters who mimic some aesthetic or if you're dealing with an authentic thing, you were involved in a rich world connected to music to actually discover stuff, which then, in turn, actually had some context, personality and meaning to it. Which means, an algorithm that tracks your listening behaviour suggests new stuff based on some pre-defined elements. I'm also one of those people who profoundly dislike streaming from cloud services on a few levels, but one specific thing I see many people write here that I'd like to comment and which isn't reflected at all is that "streaming services help you discover new music".
